When Roxas met Iloilo

Iloilo and Roxas City are just 2 hours away from each other, but last January was the first time both crews actually found the time to “get together”. Though the individuals that make up the Roxas crew are also locals of Iloilo, Palumba 2011 was the first time both groups came together for a longboard event.

We met up with Kenneth, his brother Karl, and their cousin Victor at SM Jaro Thursday noon for the 2 hour drive to San Rafael. Pleasantries were made, and new faces were introduced to the Roxas crew. As a standard of every “outing” in the island of Panay, we all discussed as to what provisions to take for the overnight stay at The Big Dipper. The choices were between Tanduay ESQ or Gran Matador. We settled for the latter.

After 2 hours of driving, and after Kenneth failed to take that “left turn at Albuquerque” which consequently led them to another part of the province, both crews finally arrived at San Rafael. The Roxas boys instantly took out their boards and started exploring the 10Km road going to the town proper. I can remember Kenneth saying “nami di pre!” ( Translation: You look toned, have you been working out? LOL )

After that, we blah blah blah blah blah, pleasantries, blah blah blah, more pleasantries, blah blah, dinner, blah blah and smoked some Fortune cigarettes.

Since most of the Iloilo crew were just there to take in the sights, those who were not going to race the next day ( plus a few who were actually going to ) had but only two options to do that evening. It was either to sleep, or “unwind”.

*The pictures you are about to see are the actual events that transpired during that faithful night of the 20th of January 2011.
